Color: Along with the cut, color is the other quality factor that most influences beauty. A truely colorless diamond can take in and reflect the maximum amount of light. The more color the diamond shows the less light it is able to return. Color may be present in diamonds due to hints of elements that mixed with the carbon millions of years ago. Today diamonds are graded on a color scale from D (colorless) to Z (light yellow). Colorless diamonds are extremely rare. There are also diamonds that come in “fancy” colors which are also extremely rare and valuable. These diamonds may come in pink, orange, blue, yellow, green, brown, and very rarely, red. These colored diamonds do not fall on the color grading scale.
