
Early 1900 The Fix-It Shop in Centralia
C.W. Betz and Great Uncle John owned a fix-it shop where they fixed watches, jewelry and sewing machines. At the same time C.W. was a school teacher instructing all eight grades in Guthrie, MO.
1922
C.W. Betz became a Dr. of Optometry and moved to Columbia where he opened an Optometry office on the 2nd floor of the Miller Building at the corner of Eighth and Broadway in Downtown Columbia, where he also did jewelry repair while raising a family of seven.
1940
Glenn Betz, the fourth child of C.W., graduated from Hickman High School and started working with John Arthur Buchroeder as well as taking classes at the University of Missouri.
1945
After WWII Glenn was on his way to New York but ran out of money in St. Louis where he fell in love with an Illinois farm girl, Nelda Cromwell.
1947
Glenn Betz and Nelda married.
1951-1956
L' Mont and Craig were born, respectively.
1965
Glenn Betz opened a jewelry business with Larry Kunkler in the Arcade Building in downtown St. Louis. L’Mont and Craig began their tutoring at the jewelry bench front their father Glenn, who was a master craftsman.
1969
Glenn's partner passed away and he became sole-proprietor of "Glenn Betz and Associates", which is currently managed by brother Craig in Des Peres, MO.
1969-1973
L' Mont came to Columbia to attend the University of Missouri... he did not finish because his father became ill and he went home to help with the business.
1982
L' Mont returned to Columbia to finish school and earned a BSBA.
1983
L' Mont, having family and friends in Columbia, decided to re-establish the family business, and "L.C. Betz Associates" was born in downtown Columbia in the Executive Building at 601 East Broadway.
2004
L' Mont was elected by state-wide jewelers to a six-year term as a director of the "Missouri Jewelers and Watchmakers Association", a 100 year trade association.
2005
Purchased a customer's commercial property, developed Crowne Plaza of Des Peres and established our first free standing jewelry store at 11776 Manchester Rd.
